Side Street Sets – May

The entire roster of talent that will be gracing the booth in Side Street during the month of May. Mainly a collection of funk, chilled laid back grooves and soul vibes. We welcome the following:


Friday 3rd – Dharma Collective

Deep-digging DJ duo, event curators and former  Melodic Distraction radio hosts on Melodic Distraction, James Sims & Kole Akeju – AKA Dharma Collective – began working together in 2015 at legendary Liverpool venue The Magnet.

Saturday 4th – Dom Owen

Dom is a DJ and collector who’s sound comprises of Deep Soul, Rare Groove, Modern Soul, Rocksteady and Lovers Rock.

Expect some familiar and lesser known selections from the record box.

Saturday 4th – Living Room Dance Club

Pushing the furniture back and setting the time machine around 1970 and beyond, Ailsa McLaggan boats a vast vinyl selection of eccentric soul, rare groove and left field disco

Friday 10th – Paul East

Resident on Loose.FM and Voices as well as out and about in Manchester. Playing vinyl selections across the spectrum of soul, funk, disco plus bits from the spaces in between. Always searching – music for the head, heart and feet.

Friday 10th – Rick Donohue
Rick Donohue is a DJ based in Manchester, UK. He has been involved in the music scene since the early 90s, when he used to sell records in Funky Monkey and Selectadisc in Nottingham. He also played on old school pirates Switch FM, Freeze FM and Power FM. He is now part of the Contrast Music Agency, and regularly performs at venues such as The Refuge, Freight Island and Society. He hosted a show on MCR Live, where he showcased his eclectic taste in music, ranging from soul, funk and disco to house, afrobeat and latin.

Saturday 11th – winkonwink

@WinkonWink is a Filipino/British DJ who delivers unique approaches to trip-hop, outsider house & ethnotronica. He formed his particular palate whilst living in Hong Kong, London and Manchester – think chilled underground with a dash of MSG.

Saturday 11th – Jude The Obscure
Jude de Buitléar is a DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist currently based in South Manchester. A well-versed and accomplished selector, Jude has held several long-term residencies across the city (Ducie Street Warehouse, Ramona, Diecast), and is known for diverse offerings from behind the decks. His deep appreciation for all things music in combination with his perceptive insight ensures that there is never a dull moment when he’s on duty.

Friday 17th – Aaron Javan

Friday 17th – Pablo Blanquito

Pablo Blanquito is a selector, broadcaster, programmer from Manchester playing with no genre boundaries.

Dropping vibes as a resident at venues all over the city and festivals all over Europe including Cross The Tracks, XJazz and Supersonic Jazz . He has supported everyone from Terrace Martin to Domi and JD Beck to Ezra Collective. You can also find him monthly on Reform/ alHara / Sutro FM and D59B radio stations worldwide or in venues UK wide.

Saturday 18th – Be With Records

Rob’s strictly all-wax selections express his love of music of many forms. Most comfortable playing for the duration of a night, his 4-5 hour ‘anything goes’ sets are very much in the Balearic-cosmic spirit. As such, they take in soul, funk, rare groove, modern R&B, perfect pop, disco, boogie, classic hip-hop, house and any combination of the above.

The only real criteria is that the music has to have soul and personality.

Friday 31st – JWB

MCR radio resident with monthly show Adhesive Audio, brings textured and downtempo sounds to Side Street Studio. If he’s not dancing in Manchester, the UK and Europe find JWB hunting for street and sticker art across the city.

Expect melodic, bouncy and playful selections to keep you cruising all night long.
