WORKINONIT brings the beat-based sound of contemporary Manchester to Side Street Studio, with an exclusive cassette compilation and ‘zine launch, in a free event, intersecting live performance, art and music production culture. Their monthly celebrations of beatmaking, which have been hailed as the city’s premier social event for hip hop producers and fans of the genre, have cultivated a thriving community, encapsulating the essence of Manchester’s musical ingenuity.
March 17th sees the exclusive launch of their first physical offering, in the shape of a cassette compilation of instrumental hip-hop from the community’s diverse stable of residents, on the esteemed Ninetofive label. An accompanying photo ‘zine, documenting the community’s second year on monthly events, will also be available, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Artistic representation comes in the form of pop-up exhibitions and demonstrations from sign-writer Third Eye Signs and miniature portrait artist Tiny Eyecons, with retro gaming provided by Bootleg Kid and merchandise available from the city’s boom-bap architects Lords Of The North.
Resident artists showcased on the release will feature in a live back-to-back beat cypher, sharing sounds straight from a bank of SP404 samplers.
